Colour has been investigated and used for more than 2000 years. Different civilisations have experimented and learnt about colour.  Today we are still learning about how colour affects us and its importance in our lives.

In ancient Egypt, colour was used for cures and for ailments. The sun was worshipped, as the source of life, for, without the light it gave, there would be no life. Temple floors were often painted green and the colour blue (of the sky) was important to the Egyptians. Temples were built for healing and light. Gems, or crystals, through which the sunlight shone, were also used for healing.
The Chinese also apparently practiced colour healing. The Nei/ching, 2000 years old, records colour diagnoses.

During the Middle Ages, Paracelsus reintroduced the knowledge and philosophy of colour using the power of the colour rays for healing along with music and herbs.

Twentieth century research into colour continues to point to the significance of its healing and balancing properties in our lives. In 1990, scientists reported to the annual conference of the American Association of the Advancement of Science on the successful use of blue light in the treatment of a wide variety of psychological problems, including addictions, eating disorders, impotence and depression. Colour tinted spectacles are highly effective in the treatment of learning disorders, notably dyslexia.
As individuals, we prefer certain colours.  This is more than a surface expression of colour preference. The metaphysics of colour - the meaning of different colours and shades, and their corresponding spiritual and psychological states - is a science in itself.  It suggests that colour likes and dislikes tell us a lot about who we are, and how we're feeling mentally emotionally and physical. A colour analysis can provide insights into our current situation. Our colour likes and dislikes change, too. If we can develop an awareness of colours, we can assist in our own healing. Check out the quizzes below and verify the accuracy of your colour choices and preferences for yourself! There are other resources too, for you to expand your knowledge and practice of colour healing for yourself.  When trying a particular self healing practice, do it consciously for a week, and journal your efforts and your impressions.
