Emotional Freedom Technique
c2006-2007 Conscious Life Skills

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, for short, is an emotional healing technique that points to all negative emotions being the cause for disruption in the body’s energy system. It is a form of psychological acupressure that people can learn and easily employ themselves in upsetting situations.

Basically, tapping on various body locations relieves symptoms. This tapping balances energy meridians that become disrupted when we think about or experience an emotionally disturbing circumstance. Once balanced, the upset is usually resolved - the memory stays but the emotional charge is gone. Typically the result is lasting and is also accompanied by positive changes in thinking.

The technique is easy to learn and ideal for self-help.

The technique evolved from Thought Field Therapy, which was created by US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan.  He discovered that stimulating acupressure / energy points lead to psychological relief for an anxious client, and through experimentation was able to discover a series of useful points, a sequence of stimulation that works for many people.

Gary Craig went on to identify a simplified series of general acupressure or energy points that could be used to treat any emotional problem. The simplified series of tapping on the acupressure points became known as the Emotional Freedom Technique.

A free EFT Get Started package is available from Gary Craig’s website.  It consists of a manual that gives you all the basics as well as free subscription to the EFT newsletter.

Conscious Life Skills incorporates the teaching and use of EFT in life coaching processes as one among several self management and self healing techniques.
