Brief topic review: Reincarnation resources
At the request of a friend, I've compiled a sampler bibliography of some webresources on reincarnation - or rebirth, which is the more contemporary term. Simply put, reincarnation is the idea that we live many lives on earth and that in any life we are what we have made ourselves in former lives -- under the law of cause and effect or karma. We each have an immortal aspect to our selves, which is commonly called the soul, which journeys on forever.
Theosophical organisations are a good first contact for finding out more about rebirth. Check out this list of articles online. There are some that deal with the concept of rebirth as accepted in early Christianity.
Some doctors and psychiatrists have incorporated past life regression into their professional practice. They have published books that are continuing best sellers on the topic. Wellknown authors are: Brian Weiss Michael Newton Ian Stevenson. Case studies feature prominently in their books.
Children's memories and recollections are often touted as the best evidence for reincarnation. Ian Stevenson's work concentrated largely on children. Author Carol Bowman began her investigations began when her young son, Chase, suddenly developed eczema and a terror of loud noises. Under hypnosis Chase portrayed himself as a soldier in the American Civil War, with sophisticated and graphic detail.
The idea that we've lived before and will continue to live again can be quite exciting. When people first stumble upon the idea of rebirth, they are intrigued to find out about their past lives. There are many past life regression therapists around. It's prudent to check them and their qualifications out, as you would carefully check out any doctor to whom you go for medical advice. It's also a good idea to have some idea beforehand of what to expect with past life regression therapy.
For those of you wishing to read and explore more about your own past lives, guided imagery combined with meditation is usually the way to go. Brian Weiss' Mirrors of time book and CD outline the techniques he uses for regression. A down-to-earth guidebook How to uncover past lives by Ted Andrews may help you understand that feeling of deja-vu, recurring dreams of a particular place or time, your strong attraction to particular countries or civilisations and the feeling of being instantly close to someone. These experiences are often read as clues to your past lives.
Remember to check out your local library to see if they hold any of the books. That way, you can read them for free!
